Drop me a PM or comment here if you want to ask my permission for something.

COMBAT:
  • FIGHTING: I love fighting. Bear in mind that Fandral is a legitimately skilled warrior and not gentle about it, and at the height of his power, is incredibly difficult to injure. But also bear in mind that punching Norse guys out of frame is my favourite.
  • INJURE/MAIM: Fandral is pretty durable, so please feel free to do your worst. If you are capable of actually seriously harming him, then maybe just ask me before you do anything drastic, but I am likely to say yes.
  • DEATH: Seeing as Proxima Beta is not permadeath, I am open to this. Please ask me first.
  • BADTOUCH:
  • ROMANCE: Come get it. Fandral is romantic naturally. However, he is also a compulsive flake, so meaningful pursuit of romance is not as much of a guarantee as it appears.
  • KISSING: Pretty much eternally kiss_OK.
  • SEX: I might not write out explicit sex with everyone I encounter, and tend to glaze over the act over the course of 3-5 tags with some choice phrasing and details as opposed to long monster threads, although I may get elaborate in the before and after. In some cases, I may wish to fade to black! Please feel free to ask me either way if I don't ask you.
  • DO NOT WANT: Underage anything, mentally or physically, and the line is 18. Toilet fetish is also one I'll be avoiding. I am otherwise pretty much open to write whatever, so ask if you're unsure.
  • OOC:
  • BACKTAGGING: Generally this is necessary for me anyway. I may drop threads if it's like two months later and they're not really doing anything, but I am almost always willing to pick something back up again.
  • THREADJACKING: Sure.
  • FOURTHWALLING: Nope.
  • TRIGGERS: I have none. I will respect yours. If I fuck up, feel free to tell me so.

    PLAYER INFORMATION
    NAME: Samm
    AGE: 25
    JOURNAL: [personal profile] thedashing
    CURRENTLY PLAYED: n/a

    CHARACTER INFORMATION
    CHARACTER NAME: Fandral Gylvison
    SERIES: Marvel Cinematic Universe
    CHARACTER AGE: ~1000
REFERENCE: There is precious little established canon about Fandral, including his last name, which is made up, and because I am not a comics person, I've only touched on else-universe comics featuring his character for personality cues as opposed to background detail, but there are several things we can infer based on movie canon! I shall try to do so with a sense of chronology.

As a close friend of Thor's, this implies Fandral may come from a background of some means -- the idea of wealth and poverty are probably not so disparate as Earth, and things like reputation and glory are probably a high currency in a culture of warriors. His father was, perhaps, a warrior of some note and repute, and, one day, when he had a break between glorious battles as Asgard lurched for a peacetime, he picked up his only son from where he was stashed in some obscure, potentially relatively provincial corner of Asgard along with his mother and sisters, and placed in the court of Asgard to train alongside other young men.

The establishment of the Warriors Three probably came about with Thor at its centre, seeing as all three men are acutely different -- Volstagg, significantly older, and Hogun, a native to Vanaheim and skilled tracker, and then Fandral, quintessential Asgardian boy who, given the movie's hints at his social adeptness, probably started off as being something of a social climber. He probably won notice and favour through his good humour, as well as his undeniable talent with the sword, one he'd be keen to show off at any opportunity. There also joined them the Lady Sif, as well as Thor's weird little brother, Loki, and the six were known as adventurers and warriors.

    A thousand years roll by.

The events of Thor (2011) happen, documenting Fandral's most recent foray on Earth. After that, The Avengers, with Fandral acting as Sir Not Appearing In This Film, but it indicates that the Nine Realms are in some urgency, with a broken Bifrost. Civil wars and marauding villians cause battles to erupt across the galaxy, and as seen in Thor: The Dark World, Fandral along with his friends are tasked with helping to keep the peace. He later assists in a little treason out of loyalty to Thor.

CANON POINT: During Thor: The Dark World, after he assists in Loki's break out. One can assume that after giving the guards a run for their money as further distraction, he was jailed for treason, where he along with his friends waited for Thor to return and sort everything out. Hopefully. Fandral isn't too worried.

SEXUALITY: Fandral, of all the Asgardians, is portrayed as being shamelessly voracious in his attitude towards sex. In deleted footage, Thor calls upon all things his Warriors value and enjoy the most, and Thor cites Fandral's womanising keenness for maidens across the galaxy. Suffice to say he likes ladies, but suffice also to say he is adventurous. I would see him as taking a performative and public enjoyment of women, given his existence in a warrior's culture with stringent gender roles -- he himself is quite flippy and fancy when compared to the gruff or stoic viking model of manhood. Beyond this romantic caricature, his tastes are more expansive, although pursuing men meaningfully would mean some grappling with his own internalised notions of gender and sex and having the upperhand.

PERSONALITY: A thousand years is a long time to live, and translates to culture that is both preposterously advanced as well as being slow moving. Fandral is a collection of these traits, with an affect to his personality that those of Earth would find quaint and backwards, with attitudes that seem old fashioned, and philosophies that are out of place. In other ways, he is very adapting, enjoys the kind of ego that can only come from a sort of inherent sense of superiority, and a courtly politeness that means this isn't always annoying.

In the day to day, Fandral gives the impression of a confident and somewhat mannerly gentlemen. He uses big words and elaborate ways of speaking, he brandishes and defers and asserts. He loves women and enjoys all manners of their company, and this is most often expressed with a certain amount of flirt and sexual or romantic interest! His reputation is not only a friend of Prince Thor and a formidable warrior, but also a ladies' man in a genuine sense of the term. This probably does not always come across as respectful as it should, but it does come from a genuine enjoyment of women in all their different forms.

He is also known for running his mouth a bit, often given to a jovial amount of mockery where his friends are concerned, sass with informal acquaintances, and otherwise flippant chattery. He is very rarely malicious, often seeing banter as a form of sparring, and to be enjoyed. As one of the Warriors Three, and friend of Lady Sif and Thor, he enjoys a certain amount of social savvy and is probably the closest thing to a diplomat that group will ever get, besides Loki of the silver-tongue.

But he is not especially subversive, and will generally support the attitudes of his friends as well as Asgard, more follower and loyal subject than leader. He's fine about this!

It should also be noted he has a temper, one that sparks wilder than that of Volstagg and Hogun. When stressed or angry or otherwise discontent, Fandral is not immune from lashing out in the wrong direction or being unnecessarily mean and occasionally needs a slap upside the head. This is a vestige as to how I imagine he might have been when he was younger, somewhat more brash and eager to prove himself until long years of fighting alongside true friendships has made him a better man.

He is a master of swordsmanship, and long centuries of battle have honed his combat to an art. He likes horses and will miss his. He will defend those that need defending and fight along the sides of those that do not.

On the battlefield is probably where Fandral most closely resembles a viking, with a sense of aggressive brutality that might come as a surprise to those who do not know any better. He takes a very genuine enjoyment from battlefield murder and near certain death, and is particularly merciless against foes that seem like they could match him. There's no fun to slaughtering things that don't ask for it, of course -- Asgardians are the protectors of the Nine Realms and Fandral takes this to heart. He just has fun doing it.

POWERS: Fandral enjoys all the strengths and privileges that come with being Asgardian, as compared to the average baseline human. Unlike Thor and Volstagg, he is not excessively strong when compared to his peers -- but when compared to a human, he is almost casually dangerous in this area. A punch, with enough enthusiasm, could break bone without so much as bruising his knuckles. He can leap several feet from a point of standing, wield heavy weapons, damage restraints not specifically catered to withstanding Asgardians, and so on.

More than strength, Asgardians are incredibly, almost comically durable. If something stronger than Fandral were to knock him through a brick wall, it would hurt, but he would not be significantly injured. It takes a lot of effort to even break skin, let alone break a bone. They are also very long living, with Fandral clocking in at just over a thousand years.

As for Fandral himself, his skills as a warrior lie in swiftness and swordplay and a marriage of both of these things to one another. To an Asgardian, he is irritatingly agile. To a human, he is intimidatingly quick, bordering on preternatural -- but not quite, never ranging into actual speedster range. They just don't call him the Dashing for nothing.

He has no magic or any other special powers to speak of.

SUITABILITY: Fandral is suitable for Proxima Beta for a number of reasons. He is a social creature, making meeting and interacting with new people second-nature to him, even if they're only mortal. He is also fffairly liberal with regard to sex, taking these encounters nonseriously and having enjoyed a ridiculous amount of it in the past, but with some rigid views that will be fun to test and develop. His biggest struggle will be that his sex life is no longer under his control, but he is an adaptable creature as well as long-living -- the knowledge that chances are, he will eventually know freedom, help eliminate immediate desires to escape.

    FIRST PERSON EXAMPLE:

    --infernal little device--

[ Fandral's voice is off-camera, spoken low, the image blurry with movement, but you can get the general idea of the setting; an apartment touched with early morning light, being moved through, the network device held up and away from the one (Fandral) holding it.

He slows, lets the image focus sharper. ]

    There we are.

[ The image turns, and captures the sight of a naked woman sprawled across the bed, olive skin, a flood of black hair obscuring her face as she sleeps. ]

And there you are. Lovely as ever. [ The shot pushes in closer, manually -- some of Fandral can be seen, a bare arm extended, a slice of a knee, his reflection -- pink skinned, messy haired -- passing warped in the glassy headboard. The device is hovered over her, a hand reaching out to draw back silky locks of hair to reveal a high cheekbone, and the evidence of her rousing. ] Come along now, fair lady, and then you will see you as I see you.

[ She rolls over, opening sleepy eyes, a smile beginning and then terminating, brow crinkled. Husky; ]

    What are you doing?

    Why, looking at you.

    Is that on?

    I believe so.

    Is it recording?!

    Oh. Hm.

[ Sudden chaos as the device is snatched from him, the view winging around to show Fandral at a careless angle, bare chest, eyebrows inquiring and innocent. She proclaims; ] Oh my god, it's broadcasting, you ass! [ and he promptly grins, breaking into laughter, the video terminating there. ]

    THIRD PERSON EXAMPLE:

  • With Hogun the Grim.
